Online Gun Safe is the premiere website for storing some of the most personal and important information that a person may have. OnlineGunSafe.com has become the most used and trusted virtual firearm vault, or gun safe. This wouldn't have been possible if we didn't ensure the security of your data. In order to become the best we had to go through great lengths to ensure all data stored with us is as secure as possible. This is why we use SSL to encrypt all of your data between your computer or device and the server.

Why should I use this website instead of the app on my phone?

This is a great question that gets asked all the time. It all comes down to how secure your data is. Most of us know that once someone has physical access to information it's easily compromised. This means that the information stored on your iPhone or Android based phone is only as secure as the phone itself. Being in public with your phone is a huge security risk to your information. Cell phones are a popular target for theives! The second reason is a different kind of security. Since our servers are remotely located from you, and are backed up to another offsite location, you can be sure that your information will always be there when you need it. Fires, burglaries, floods, earthquakes, tornados. These are all events outside of our control. All of which have the potential to damage or destroy your cell phone. In such an event you may be unable to get the information on your firearms to the authorities or insurance company. By using our services you can rest at ease knowing that no matter what happens locally in your life, your information is secure by simply accessing this website. Also cell phone carriers reserve the right to remove applications and data from their network, which includes your phone, at any time without warning or notice. This has happened before and will likely continue to happen as the end users do not control the network nor the data. Lastly, if you ever change carriers or phones you don't have to worry about replacing or moving your data.

How many firearms can I store on your website?

Unlimited! When you sign-up for our paid service you can store unlimited information on all of your firearms. However, with our free service you're limited to three firearms and three attachments per firearm.

Why do you offer a free and paid service instead of one or the other?

We wanted to offer a free service to our fellow firearm enthusiasts. While drafting the idea for this website we realized that an entirely free and unlimited service would not be financially feasible for us, or for any company, unless there was an income to pay for services such as hosting and website administration. We did not want to have ads placed on the website, and we didn't want to rely on donations. So we came up with the current model of 3 firearms for the free service, and unlimited for the paid service.

Why do you offer a free service?

We wanted to offer a free service to the firearm community. We figured one of the best things we can do is help people keep their information safe. Most people who only have one or two firearms for protection or because they're family heirlooms don't need a paid service. They don't need to store a large number of firearms. The free service we offer allows people who otherwise wouldn't consider storing their information safely on our site to do so, ensuring that their firearms information is safe for retrieval if disaster strikes.

What are attachments and why associate them with a firearm?

An attachment is just that. It's a media file such as a picture or PDF that can be associated with a firearm. This allows you to take pictures of your firearm, or scan your receipts, manuals, or anything else and store them on our website. This makes sure that all identifying marks on your firearm can be recorded. It's also a way of digitizing and storing important documents such as registration information and values. In case of a disaster in your home, you may lose this important information. This is another reason why our services help decentralize your important information.

I have all of my information stored in a spreadsheet on my computer, do I need your services?

YES! Your computer is not safe from a disaster, theft, or malfunction. Most people do not have extensive personal backup solutions in case there is data corruption or a disaster. All of your family pictures, videos, personal information could be lost by something as simple as you bumping your computer. Storing your information with us removes this from the equation. However, it doesn't hurt to have multiple copies of your information in different physical locations. This is the ultimate backup solution and is one we employ we our services.

I only have a small revolver that's put away, do I need your services?

Yes, you do. It doesn't matter how many firearms you own, you need to document their existence, identifying marks, and any other information you have on them. Even if it's only one revolver that was passed from over several generations. Storing your information makes it readily accessible if the unthinkable happens. Besides, with only one firearm, our service is free!

I own many firearms and trade/buy/sell them often, is your service convenient to use?

Yes, our website is easy, simple, and convenient. We believe in doing one thing and doing it well. Securing your data in the most convenient and efficient way possible is our job. We take our job very seriously and becaue of this we go through a lot of testing to ensure that the user experience is comfortable.

Do you have an iPhone or Android application?

No, we do not, and we never will. Storing your data on your phone is not a good idea for reasons outlined above. However, we will be working on a phone friendly version of the website in the near future to make it even more convenient for our users to access their information

What happens if I sign up for the paid service and then stop paying?

If you're storing more than 3 firearms and fail to pay the monthly (or yearly) fee, your account will be moved back to "free" status limiting your access to the first three firarms you added. In order to access or add any other firearms you would need to bring your account back to current status. For more information please see our Terms of Service.

My friend said that if I use your website the police will be able to seize my firearms, is this true?

No, this is untrue. The only time that any law enforcement or government agency would be able to see your data on this website is through a court order which is essentially a warrant. However, this would not be much use to either entity as all information is stored using encryption. None of the staff, not even the owner of this website can see your data.

Why store my information with you when my firearms are registered?

There are numerous reasons. Most states do not truly "register" a firearm. California is a good example of this. Long guns or rifles in California are not registered. Also, firearms sold before a certain year are also exempt from being registered. State officials or police departments will not have such detailed information such as pictures, bills of sale, and so on. It's important that you can document your firearms extensively to ensure that you're able to replace or get back stolen or destroyed firearms.

Do you store this information for the government?

No! We're not part of the government, and we do not share information with the government. You may read our Terms of Service for a full explanation of who sees your data and when. We also have our Privacy Policy.

Is your website secure? How do I know my data is secure?

Yes, our site uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) which is the industry standard for transmitting secure encrypted data from your browser to the server that the website is on. We employ all current security measures to ensure your data is as safe as it can be. As an added bonus to our tight security, all information is stored using encryption. This means that only the owner of the information has they key (password) to view the information. To view our PCI compliance please go here Compliance Report
